How to Identify a Tigo Data Logger
There are three generations of Tigo Data Logger:
The CCA (Cloud Connect Advanced) is the most current Tigo Data Logger product.
If you are replacing a legacy Data Loger (MMU or CC), you will most likely be installing a new CCA in its place. However, the procedure described (below) is valid for all types of loggers.
Note: The CCA is compatible with both Tigo transceiver products (Gateway and TAP).
Changing the Serial Number
Changing the Serial Number requires an Installer's account with access permission to the system.
Those with an installer-level account access to the system must make changes to the assigned Data Logger by entering the new serial number (via the Equipment page). Without this step, the new Data Logger cannot be Discovered.
-
Directions for using the Tigo Energy App:
- Go to the system page and click the Settings Cog (bottom right)
- Choose Edit System
- Press Select Equipment
- Select the View Details button (under the CCA section)
- Choose Edit button
- Type in the new Serial Number or press the Scan button to use your camera.
-
Directions for using a web browser
- Go to the system's page and click Edit > Equipment (left panel)
- Click the Edit button under the Cloud Connect Advanced (CCAs) section (right side)
- In the pop-up window, enter the new CCA serial number
- Click Update
Replacing the Data Logger
Powering down your system is required for CCA replacement. The system will not be producing any power during this period due to the automatic RSD (Rapid Shutdown) response, which disconnects the DC production (coming from the PV Modules) to the string. For this reason, Tigo suggests performing the change during the evening or early morning.
Directions for removing an MMU:
- Open the cover by rotating the screw at the bottom of the transparent cover until the slot is horizontal, then push the thumb button (located below the key slot) upwards and pull the cover.
- Remove the two screws attaching the access panel (below the control panel); see white arrows.
-
Open the panel by lifting it from the bottom corners.
-
Disconnect all cables to the MMU:
- Power cable (left)
- Ethernet cable (middle, from the bottom of the unit)
- Gateway cable (right)
- Gateway terminal block can be removed (gently pulled from the board).
This makes it easier to loosen the terminal screws. - Note: Photograph or make a note of the Gateway +- | AB connections (including wire colors) so that the new CCA can be installed without needing to modify the wiring at the Gateway.
- Gateway terminal block can be removed (gently pulled from the board).
Directions for removing a Cloud Connect:
- (If the Cloud Connect is in a Tigo Enclosure) Open the cover by inserting a flathead screwdriver into the keyhole at the bottom of the bezel (in front).
- Turn until the key slot is horizontal (flat) and pull up on the release bar (below the key slot).
-
Disconnect all cables to the Cloud Connect:
- Ethernet cable (top right)
- Power cable (bottom right)
- Gateway cable (bottom right)
- Gateway terminal block can be removed (gently pulled from the board).
- Depress the DIN-Rail mount bracket button (top rear of device) and pull the logger out.
Installing New CCA in Enclosure
For instructions on installing and mounting the new CCA, see our Quickstart Guide for CCA and TAP.
- Install the DIN Rail, in the back of the enclosure.
- Cut the cable tie on the Ethernet cable.
- Attach the CCA to the Din rail.
- Reconnect the cables:
- Gateway cable (following the original + - | AB color scheme)
- Ethernet
- Power - Any 24VDC / 1 Amp power supply can be used with all three Tigo data loggers. If you are Installing a CCA, the original MMU power supply can be used by simply cutting off the barrel-tip and separating the positive (which has the 'broken' white stripe) and negative leads.
Note: There are new CCA style enclosures available. These can be purchased separately, or together by selecting the Tigo Outdoor Communications Kit (includes: CCA, Power Supply, and enclosure).
You can also choose to use a third-party enclosure if you like. Make sure that it's rated appropriately for outdoor usage (weather conditions, etc).
Discovery of New CCA
Once you have changed the Serial Number (on the online Tigo Portal or Tigo EI App), the new Tigo CCA will be recognized by the Tigo Servers. All you have to do, is make the network connection happen. The original configuration file (including all of the MLPE serial numbers), will be automatically downloaded to the CCA. Please allow 15 minutes for this download/installation to happen.
For more info: Configure Communication (Network and Start Discovery).
When the download is complete, the CCA should automatically start the Discovery process upon the next power cycle (or the next morning restart). For basic residential systems, allow up to 60 minutes before the system is Discovered and available for viewing on the app and online portal. This period can be longer for commercial and larger home systems.
If there is no Discovery response after 24 hours, Contact Tigo Support for assistance. Our Engineers can review the system for issues, and initiate a remote Discovery command (if the Internet is connected).
