Overview
This article addresses how to change the serial number for a new Optimizer. If you are looking to change the serial for a Data Logger (CCA), go to: Updating a Serial Number for a Data Logger
Whenever a Tigo Optimizer or MLPE (module level power electronics) is replaced, it's Serial Number must be updated within the EI Portal, in order for the system to recognize the new unit.
There are two methods available to update the serial number:
Note: After updating a serial number, it typically takes 30 to 60 minutes for reporting to start. However, some systems may take up to 24 hours for the unit to start reporting. For this reason, please allow up to 24 hours before Contacting Support for assistance.
Account Permission
Changing out serial numbers requires an Installer Level account. The System Owner accounts do not have access to Installer tools, as they can cause critical system modifications that may not be reversible (if misused).
If you are a System Owner:
Contact the Installer of your system to request modification. If you do not currently have an installer, you may Contact Tigo Support and specify the following:
- System Name and Street Address (or System ID)
- Old PV module location and MLPE serial number
- New serial number for replacement
If you are a new installer:

🏆 Pro Tip: All Tigo Systems have a unique identifier. Knowing this ID can speed things up, when seeking assistance from Tigo Support. Here's how to find it.
-
On Desktop Computer - Go to the System's page and look at the end of the URL link, that is displayed in the address bar of the browser.
For example: https://ei.tigoenergy.com/build/system/layout?sysid=<xxxxx>
-
On the EI App - Exit system by tapping the back arrow (top left). Use the search function to find system and the System ID will show on the right side, of the results:
Web Browser Method
- Sign into Installer Level account at Tigo Energy
- Select the system from list, to go to it's Overview page
- Click Edit header (left side menu)
- Select Layout sub-header in pop out menu
- Click Serials tab on upper right side (on the toolbox) to open Serials and Scan Tools
- Then, click on the PV Module that requires replacement (a Module pop up will show)
- Click the Bin icon on pop up window, to delete old serial number
- Click the pop up field to enter the new serial number
Note: The Toolbox will show a Scan button. If the old Serial has already been removed, click this and a short-list of all PV modules with no Serials will show.
Once you have entered in the new serial number, there is no button to click to Save. If the number is recognized as valid, the Layout tool will automatically accept it, and sends notification to the Data Logger that the MLPE has changed.
Serial Numbers that include Typos or Duplicates may prompt an error notification. Double check the serial spelling and review the system to insure that the serial has not already been deployed on another PV Module location.
EI App Method
- Sign into Installer Level account on Tigo EI App
- Search for system on the Installations page
- Touch system to select
- Press Settings icon (bottom right)
- Select Edit System
- Choose Configure Layout
- Press Scan button to activate the serial number function (lower right)
- Select the Serial Number to change (via type-text), or...
Press blue Serials button to activate the phone's camera scanner (point at label)
If the number is recognized as valid, the Configure Layout tool will automatically accept it, and sends notification to the Data Logger that the MLPE has changed.
Serial Numbers that include Typos or Duplicates may prompt an error notification. Double check the serial spelling and review the system to insure that the serial has not already been deployed on another PV Module location.
