This workaround ensures reliable internet connectivity with outdoor metal enclosures.
The Tigo Cloud Connect Advanced (CCA) requires a stable internet connection—either via Wi-Fi or a hardwired Ethernet cable—to communicate with the Tigo Energy Intelligence (EI) Portal. While Tigo offers an outdoor kit with a NEMA 3R enclosure, some installers may opt for or be required to use a fully metal outdoor enclosure for added durability or compliance.
Issue:
Metal enclosures block Wi-Fi signals, preventing the CCA from connecting to the customer’s router when using Wi-Fi.
Solution:
Installers using Wi-Fi must extend the antenna outside the metal enclosure using an RG174 extension cable and properly mount the antenna externally to ensure signal strength and system connectivity.
Required Materials:
- RG174 extension cable (SMA male to SMA female)
- Drill with appropriate bit (typically 1/4" or 6mm)
- Grommet or waterproof bulkhead fitting
- Sealant (UV-rated silicone or equivalent)
- Wrench or socket for tightening antenna fitting
Step-by-Step Instructions:
-
Drill the Hole
Choose a location on the metal enclosure where the antenna will have good line-of-sight for Wi-Fi signals. Drill a hole sized to fit your grommet or bulkhead connector (typically 1/4" to 3/8"). -
Run the Cable
Connect the RG174 extension cable to the CCA’s antenna port and feed it through the hole from the inside. -
Mount the Antenna
Attach the antenna to the external end of the extension cable. Use a waterproof bulkhead fitting or grommet to hold the antenna securely in place. -
Seal the Penetration
Apply waterproof sealant around the cable entry point to prevent any water ingress. Ensure the sealant fully cures before powering on the system. -
Verify Connectivity
Power on the CCA and confirm that Wi-Fi signal strength is sufficient for reliable communication with the EI Portal. You can verify this in the Tigo EI App during commissioning.
Notes:
- If Wi-Fi signal strength remains weak, consider relocating the antenna or switching to a hardwired Ethernet connection.
- Only use outdoor-rated cables and sealants to ensure long-term durability.
