I have been in the industry since 2008 when I started as SMA America's technical trainer. I bid SMA farewell in 2015 and hopped over to sonnen, Inc. to help them launch their energy storage system in the U.S. In May of 2021, I transitioned to Tigo as the Technical Training Director. I am a huge fan of renewable energy, BBQ, and gaming. I am a published author and wrote an Amazon best seller about grid-tied lithium-ion storage.

Greg Smith commented,
I checked with our engineers and a 350 foot connection between the CCA and TAP is fine. However, only if you are using one TAP and the CCA is powered with a 24V power supply. If you are using multi...

Greg Smith commented,
That's a great question, Wesley. RS-485 has a range of 4000 feet, but I will check with our engineers to see if the CCA has enough oomf for 350 feet.

Greg Smith commented,
We have noticed inconsistent operation when the RSS Transmitter uses the Sol-Ark internal 12V power supply regardless of the weather conditions. This same behavior has been noted for systems in AZ ...

Official comment Hi Steve, VP of Software addressed the latency not too long ago in a Community reply: We are aware of the current system processing delays we are having. The issue usually occurs during the peak t...

Greg Smith commented,
The CCA is connected to the TAP via a hardwired RS485 cable. Once the CCA is energized, the TAP starts communicating with the TS4s.

Greg Smith commented,
The temperature component is interesting, considering the RSS transmitter is rated at -40F. I forwarded this conversation to one of our engineers to investigate. I will keep this post updated. Than...

Greg Smith commented,
Thanks, Dan. I reviewed the 12kW and 15kW manuals, and it looks like the 8kW manual is the only one that overtly states the power requirement. I'll reach out to them.

Greg Smith commented,
Very observant, Dan. I should have asked how the transmitter was connected. In June of this year, Sol-Ark revised their manual to reflect a change in the way the rapid shutdown device is powered. T...

Hi Dan, the TS4-A-2F is rated to -40F, so I doubt temperature is affecting the MLPE. Where is the RSS Transmitter installed? That is rated to -14F. The Sol-Ark PV start voltage is 125VDC. This is t...
