This guide explains how to commission the Tigo EI Residential System (US), including the EI Inverter, EI Battery, Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS), generator, and connected TS4 equipment using the EI App.
This article covers commissioning only. Install and wire all equipment per the applicable manuals and quick start guides before you begin.
Before You Begin
Commissioning requires a strong, stable internet connection at the site. Confirm the following before opening the app:
- The EI Inverter, battery, ATS, energy meter, generator, and TS4 equipment are installed and powered as required for commissioning.
- Install the latest version of the Tigo Energy Intelligence (EI) app on the mobile device used for commissioning. Download or update the app by searching for “Tigo Energy Intelligence” in the Apple App Store (iOS) or the Google Play Store (Android).
- You have an installer-level Tigo account and the customer network credentials.
- Enable Bluetooth, location, and camera permissions on the mobile device.
- Equipment serial numbers and barcodes are accessible.
- For monitored TS4 systems, the paper map matches the installed array.
1. Sign In and Start a New System
1. Open the Tigo EI App and sign in. If you do not have an account, tap Enroll and follow the prompts to verify your email address.
2. On the Installations screen, tap the plus sign in the upper-right corner to create a new system.
3. When prompted, allow the EI App to check Bluetooth and access the required device permissions.
4. When the permissions verification screen appears, tap Next to continue.
2. Enter System Details
1. On the Navigation screen, tap System Details.
2. Enter the system name, planned turn-on date, and site address.
3. Enter the system azimuth and tilt. Although the EI App labels these fields as Optional, you must complete them for the EI Portal to calculate estimated production and for the system to display correctly in EI Professional. Use values from the approved system design or site survey.
4. Confirm the site information and tap Continue.
3. Select the Installed Equipment
Select all equipment installed at the site before configuring individual devices. These selections determine which configuration options are available later in the process.
1. On the Navigation screen, tap Select Equipment.
2. Select installed equipment.
- For an EI Inverter paired with monitored TS4 MLPE, select Tigo EI Inverter plus MLPE.
- For installations without a monitored TS4 layout, select Tigo EI Inverter.
- Select Tigo MLPE if you are installing TS4-O with the Cloud Connect Advanced and Tigo Access Point (TAP).
3. Select each installed product, including the EI Inverter, battery configuration, ATS, generator, and CCA or monitored TS4 equipment, as applicable. Tap Next.
4. Confirm that Select Equipment shows Completed.
4. Add the EI Inverter
1. Open Configure Equipment, then tap Inverters.
2. Tap the green plus sign, then tap Scan.
3. Wait while the app searches for nearby Tigo devices.
4. Compare the displayed serial number with the installed inverter. If you find more than one device, swipe until the correct serial number appears. Tap Add.
5. Connect and Configure the EI Inverter
Connect the Inverter to the Internet
1. From the EI Setup screen, tap Internet Settings.
2. For Ethernet, select Ethernet and use Automatic DHCP unless the site network requires manual settings.
3. For Wi-Fi, select the customer network, enter the password, and connect. Pull down to refresh the network list if it is empty.

4. Return to EI Setup by tapping the back arrow in the upper left corner. Confirm that Online displays a green check mark. Install any available equipment updates before continuing.
Configure Inverter Settings
1. On the EI Setup screen, tap Inverter Settings.
2. Select the grid code required by the serving utility and approved interconnection documents. Confirm the correct service voltage.
3. Open Advanced Options and configure only the settings required for the project. Available options may include AC Meter, General Settings, ATS, AFCI, and Set Maximum Output Power.
4. Tap Save, then Done.
Important: Configure the grid code, service voltage, and maximum output power to match the approved system design and utility interconnection requirements. Confirm any unclear settings before saving.
6. Configure Energy Storage and Backup Equipment
Complete only the subsections that apply to the equipment installed at the site. The equipment should already have been selected in Section 3.
Configure the Automatic Transfer Switch
1. From Inverter Settings, open Advanced Options, tap ATS, then tap Add ATS.
2. Tap Scan Barcode. You can also enter the barcode manually.
3. Allow camera access when prompted.
4. Place the ATS barcode inside the scan area.
5. Confirm the captured serial number and tap Save Barcode.
6. Verify the ATS model, amperage, and serial number. Apply an ATS update if the app requires one.
7. Tap the back arrow (top left).
Configure the Generator If Installed
1. From the ATS screen, tap the + symbol to add a generator.
2. Enter generator voltage, size, and whether it will be used to charge the batteries.
3. Tap SAVE to continue. Tap back arrow to return to EI Setup screen
Test generator operation after commissioning is complete. See Section 12.
Add the Battery and Energy Meter
1. From EI Setup, tap Batteries and Meters.
2. Confirm that the app detects the energy meter and each battery cabinet. Refresh the screen if a recently powered device does not appear.
3. Use Scan Barcode for Warranty when prompted, and confirm the displayed serial numbers and battery state of charge.
4. Tap Done.
7. Enter Solar Module and String Information
1. From EI Setup, tap PV Modules.
2. Confirm the inverter manufacturer, model, and number of MPPTs. Tap Add String.
3. Select the solar module manufacturer and model. If the module is not listed, tap the plus sign to add it.
4. Enter the number of modules and select the connected MPPT. Tap Save.
5. Repeat these steps for each string, then tap Done.
8. Configure the Solar Module Layout
Complete Sections 8 and 9 for systems using monitored TS4 MLPE. The app layout and paper map must match the physical array.
1. From Configure Equipment, tap Solar Panel Layout.
2. Using the site layout sheet, place the modules in the app layout so their locations match the physical array.
9. Enter or Scan TS4 Serial Numbers
1. Select a module in the layout, then tap the barcode icon for that module.
2. Scan the TS4 barcode.
3. Confirm that the TS4 serial number appears in the correct module location. Repeat until the Place and Scan counters are complete.

10. Start Discovery and Verify Equipment
1. Return to Configure Equipment. The inverter and TS4 discovery process may continue after you save the layout. Tap Continue Commissioning.
2. Wait for the solar module layout to show Connected and confirm that the required equipment has been found.
3. Return to Navigation and confirm that System Details, Select Equipment, and Configure Equipment show Completed.
11. Grant System Access
Grant access when the system owner or another authorized user needs to view the system. You can do this during commissioning or afterward.
1. Tap System Access.
2. Enter the user's email address, first name, and last name, then tap Add Access. The user must follow the email instructions to accept access.

12. Complete Commissioning and Verify Operation
1. Confirm that all required Navigation items show Completed. Resolve any incomplete equipment, communication, fault, or warning condition before leaving the site.
2. Tap Complete Commissioning.
3. On the system Home screen, verify that the displayed solar, grid, battery, and home power flow agree with the operating condition of the site.
Test Backup Operation
1. Confirm that commissioning is complete and the inverter is synchronized with the grid. The Sun LED should be solid green.
2. Turn off grid power to the Tigo ATS using the approved site procedure.
3. Confirm that the system enters backup mode and that the designated backup loads remain energized.
4. Restore grid power and confirm that the system returns to normal operation.
View Real-Time Data
From the EI Setup screen, tap the three-dot menu and select Real-Time Data. Review production, warnings, and faults before leaving the site.
Set the Battery Operating Mode
From the system Home screen, tap Settings, then Energy and Battery Management. Select the required operating mode. The homeowner can change this setting later.
Test Generator Operation If Installed
Follow Testing Generator Functionality after Commissioning to verify manual start, manual stop, automatic start, automatic stop, and generator energy flow.
