This article covers the Tigo Legacy TS4 Cover products (TS4- and TS4-R), which were manufactured for usage with both integrated (Smart-Module) and non-integrated (retrofit) functionality.
Overview
Tigo's Legacy TS4 Cover products provided technology that was embedded in an interchangeable cover. This cover could snap onto a module integrated junction box (J-Box) installed by a panel manufacturer, or a non-integrated retrofit unit, that could be MC4 connected to any PV-Module.
The added functionality of the TS4 covers was incremental. For example, the TS4-M includes monitoring functionality, which is available on the TS4-S and TS4-O. However, the TS4-S and the TS4-O include panel disconnect functionality for Rapid Shutdown (RSD) compliance.
Note: Tigo Legacy products are discontinued products (no longer manufactured or sold by Tigo). However, the Datasheets, Technical Documentation and Product Warranties are still available, at: Tigo's Legacy Downloads
Diodes
TS4-D
- 3 cell-string level bypass diodes (only).
- Same string voltage design rules as traditional modules
- No power reporting, so no need for Cloud Connect and Gateway.
- The TS4-D cover could be removed easily and replaced with a different model of cover.
Monitoring
TS4-M
- Wireless communication for module-level power production reporting
- Monitoring requires Cloud Connect and Gateway for communication (see Design Tool)
- The TS4-M cover could be removed easily and replaced with a different model of cover.
- Could be selectively deployed (in non-RSD / ground-mounted systems), to provide targeted monitoring.
Safety
TS4-S
- Wireless communication for module-level production reporting
- Compliant with NEC 690.12 Rapid Shutdown requirements.
- Safety capability requires Cloud Connect and Gateway for communication (see Design Tool).
- Systems requiring safety functionality (panel-level disconnect from a string), such as rapid shutdown, should utilize TS4-S or TS4-O only, on ALL modules.
Optimization
TS4-O
- Current matching optimization for best string performance.
- Compliant with NEC 690.12 Rapid Shutdown requirements.
- Equipped with Predictive IV technology to enable different methods of deployment.
- Assists or amends unequal parallel strings and orientation issues.
- Design into the shade for maximized roof usage and design flexibility.
Long String
TS4-L
- Compliant with NEC 690.12 Rapid Shutdown requirements.
- Assists or amends unequal parallel strings and orientation issues.
- Design into the shade for full space utilization of the roof and positional flexibility.
- Enabled increased number of panels in a string, while ensuring the Inverter maximum input voltage limit was not exceeded (number of panels could be increased by up to 30%)
- PV Module manufacturer sets the panel to string voltage limit when assembled at the plant.
- Doesn't affect minimum number of modules required (per string) to achieve the MPPT's required Startup Voltage.
