To meet local code requirements, you may mount an EI Battery on a wall bracket constructed of readily available Superstrut®, Unistrut®, or similar metal framing components. Check local codes for all battery height and mounting requirements.
These instructions assume the installer is experienced working with metal framing systems. Numerous YouTube channels offer comprehensive metal framing tutorials.
These instructions include the following sections:
- Step 1 – Gather Materials
- Step 2 – Cut Strut Channels
- Step 3 – Assemble the Base and Vertical Wall Channels
- Step 4 – Mount the Bracket Assembly
- Step 5 – Mount the Battery
Leave the EI Battery enclosure empty until it is mounted on the wall bracket. Then add battery modules.
Tighten bolts to the following torque values:
- 1/4-20 – 8 Nm
- 3/8-16 – 26 Nm
Step 1 – Gather Materials
Shopping list:
- 3/8 in. strut channel spring nuts (28)
- 3/8 in. zinc flat washers (28)
- 3/8-16 x 1 in. stainless steel/zinc hex bolts (28)
- 1/4 in. strut channel spring nuts (4)
- 1/4 in. stainless steel flat washers (4)
- 1/4-20 x 1 in. stainless steel hex bolts (4)
- 4-hole 90 degree angle strut brackets – silver galvanized (2)
- 2-hole 90-degree angle strut brackets with magnets – strut fitting – silver galvanized (4)
- 10 ft. 12-gauge half-slotted metal framing strut channels – silver galvanized (3)
- 3/8 in. lag screws or masonry fasteners (4)
Step 2 – Cut Strut Channels
Cut strut channels to the following lengths:
- 12 in. base support channels (2)
- 20 in. base angle channels (2)
- 30 in. base channels (2)
- 48 in. vertical wall channels (2)
- ≥36 in. horizontal wall channels (2)
Suggested cutlist:
- 48 in./48 in.
- 12 in./20 in./30 in./≥36 in.
- 12 in./20 in./30 in./≥36 in.
Step 3 – Assemble the Base and Vertical Wall Channels
- On each 48 in. vertical wall channel, attach one 4-hole 90-degree angle bracket.
- Attach a 12 in. base support channel to each bracket.
- Attach 30 in. base channels to the support channels.
• Locate one channel 5 in. from the back of the vertical channel.
• Locate the other channel ¾ in. from the front end of the support channel.
- Using 2-hole 90-degree angle strut brackets, attach angle supports.
Step 4 – Mount the Bracket Assembly
- Mount two horizontal wall channels against a plumb wall.
Attach each channel to at least two stud or masonry attachment points.
The height depends on your local code requirements. You may position the battery vertically on channels as needed.
- Attach the bracket assembly to the horizontal wall channels at four points.
Step 5 – Mount the Battery
- Attach the EI Battery’s four wall brackets.
- Insert two spring nuts in each support channel.
- Remove the front cover of the EI Battery base.
- Bolt the EI Battery to the support channels.
- Attach the EI Battery wall brackets to the vertical wall channels.
