This article refers to 3.3 kWh battery modules (p/n 702-2003H3-0001) included with EI Residential Solar Solution (US) TSB-10/20-US batteries. For detailed instructions regarding battery installation and wiring, refer to the Installation Manual: EI Residential Solar Solution (US).
Modules normally discharge at a rate of 1 – 2%/month when stored between -20 and +45 °C with 5 to 95% RH. To prevent falling below this threshold and potentially voiding the product warranty, all modules must be checked after six months storage and, if necessary, recharged.
Checking module SOC and recharging must be performed by a qualified service technician.
This article includes instructions to:
Check Battery Module SOC
When opening a box to access modules, be careful not to misplace or damage packing materials. All components must be repacked to as close to factory-new condition as possible. If any components are damaged or missing, contact your Tigo sales representative.
To check module SOC:
- Open the battery module box and remove the modules.
- Unwrap the top of a module and press the power button for three seconds.
- If one blue LED lights up on the left (disregard the LED on the far right), recharge the module.
Each LED on the left represents between 1 – 25% SOC. For example, two lit LEDS on the left indicate an SOC between 26 and 50%. - If no LEDs light or the LED on the right lights red, contact your Tigo sales representative and replace the module.
- If one module requires recharging, all three modules from the same battery module box must be recharged to within 2 V of each other.
Recheck SOC after six months.
Recharge Battery Modules
Tigo recommends maintaining modules at 30% SOC to comply with shipping regulations. Recharge modules using a DC power supply capable of charging a module to 55 V at a current rate of 16 A.
Important note: charge all three modules from the same battery module box to within 2 V of each other.
To recharge a module:
- Turn off the module by pressing the power button.
The far-right LED must not be lit. - Obtain two shorting pins from the battery module box Accessories bag.
- Inset shorting pins in both the Link-In and Link-Out terminals.
- Connect DC power supply cables to the module + and – terminals.
- Charge the module at a current rate of 16 A until the second LED starts flashing.
This may take from 12 to 60 minutes depending on the module’s starting SOC. - Continue charging for an additional 12 minutes to raise the SOC to approximately 30%.
- When charged, turn off the DC power supply and disconnect its cables.
- Remove the shorting pins from the Link-In and Link-Out terminals and return them to the Accessories bag.
- Recheck module SOC.
