This article covers the Tigo TS4 MLPE products which utilize wireless/radio communication to report panel power production information, and snap onto- a junction box installed by the panel manufacturer.
Modules equipped with TS4 junction boxes enable the capabilities listed below next to each type of cover.
The added functionality of the TS4 covers is incremental. For example, the TS4-S includes all the functionality available with TS4-M and TS4-D, TS4-O includes all the functionality available with TS4-S, -M., and -D, S adds panel disconnect for Rapid Shutdown support.
Refer to the PV module datasheet for voltage and current specifications, particularly the Max Voc at the coldest temperature at the site.

Diodes (Legacy)
TS4-D
- 3 cell-string level bypass diodes.
- Legacy product, no longer offered for sale.
- Same string voltage design rules as traditional modules
- No power reporting so no need for Cloud Connect and Gateway.
- A module equipped with TS4-D can be removed easily and a different model of cover installed in the field.
Monitoring
TS4-M
- Wireless communication for module-level power production reporting
- Monitoring capability requires Cloud Connect and Gateway for communication (see Design Tool)
- A module equipped with TS4-M can be changed to any other TS4 cover
- Same string voltage design rules as traditional modules.
- Can be selectively deployed in some situations, in order to provide module-level monitoring only as required.
Safety
TS4-S
- Systems requiring safety functionality (panel-level disconnect from a string), such as rapid shutdown, should utilize TS4-S or TS4-O only, on ALL modules.
- Compliant with NEC 690.12 Rapid Shutdown requirements.
- Safety capability requires Cloud Connect and Gateway for communication (see Design Tool).
- Wireless communication for module-level power production reporting
- Same string voltage design rules as traditional modules.
Optimization
TS4-O
- Boosts current from panel to match the current in the string as produced by the highest power panel in the string.
- Equipped with Predictive IV technology to enable selective deployment for appropriate systems.
- Enables an unequal number of panels in strings and different azimuth and tilt orientations.
- Design into the shade for maximized roof usage and design flexibility.
- Compliant with NEC 690.12 Rapid Shutdown requirements.
- Doesn't require communication accessories, unless monitoring and/or safety such as Rapid Shutdown capabilities are needed (see Design Tool).
Longer Strings (Legacy)
TS4-L
- Legacy product, no longer for sale
- Enables an increased number of panels in a string, yet ensures the Inverter maximum input voltage limit is not exceeded.
- The number of panels can be increased by up to 30%, see string sizing.
- PV Module manufacturer sets the panel to string voltage limit when assembled at the plant.
- Equipped with Predictive IV technology for selective deployment.
- Doesn't affect the minimum number of modules required per string to achieve MPPT required Startup Voltage.
- Enables uneven strings and different orientations.
- Design into the shade for full space utilization of the roof and positional flexibility.
- Compliant with NEC 690.12 Rapid Shutdown requirements.
- Doesn't require communication accessories, unless monitoring and/or safety capabilities are needed (see Design Tool).
