Impedance matching, i.e. Optimization, is an technique for shade mitigation/optimization where only simple sensing and solar panel output control is placed on the module level power electronics (MLPE). This is the lightest of all module based electronic solutions since the maximum power point is mathematically calculated by patented software algorithms. The maximum overall string-level power production is achieved by modifying current from a lower producing panel in order to reflect the correct “virtual” impedance for each module, thus preventing lower producing panels from impeding the production of the higher producing modules in the string.
