Shading

Hi, new to this forum and looking for a bit of advice. 3 panels on one of my strings get partial shading throughout the day from the neighbours chimney. My question is do I need to fit optimisers on that whole string or just on the panels that are affected by the shading. I have a 5kw hybrid solis inverter. Thanks Mick

  Hi Mick, thank you for asking this common question. Using an optimizer on just the shaded modules is what we refer to as partial deployment. You are optimizing only the modules shaded by your neighbor's chimney. I assume that you have about 14 or 16 modules in your array? I would put the TS4-A-S units on the unshaded modules so that you have complete module-level visibility for the system. You'll be able to see which modules are behaving properly, check on your energy production and power output, and a lot more. Regardless of the number of TS4's, you will need the Cloud Connect Advanced for the three TS4-O's you will use to mitigate the shading.

  Of course, you wouldn't need any module level devices if your neighbor would just move their chimney. Rude!
